What is SIJ Dysfunction?
The Sacroiliac joint is the area of your body where your sacrum, the triangular bone at the bottom of your spine, meets your hip bones, otherwise known as iliums. The bones can shift due to trauma or surrounding muscular tightness and/or weakness. The imbalance of the surrounding tissues can create pressure on the pelvis, pulling it out of its intended position. The symptoms of this asymmetry can manifest in a variety of ways and places, many of which are listed below:
- sciatica or sciatic nerve dysfunction
- radiating pain down the leg
- low back pain
- painful walking
- urinary incontinence
- pelvic pain
- groin pain
- piriformis syndrome
- buttock pain
- thigh pain
- difficulty or pain with single leg balance
- hip pain
- leg length discrepancy
- knee pain
- ankle pain
